The Road To Success Starts With A Single Step...

“We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we're curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.” - Walt Disney

Well it is official. We have signed up for the Walt Disney World half marathon. I am very excited about this journey to get there. I have started running and I am slowly getting to the point where I will be able to see the 13.1 miles in my reach. Right now I am starting off by running 2 miles a couple of times a week. I am also using the couch to 5K running program to help me build the strength I need to be able to do it. I am hopeful to tackle a couple of 5K's this summer and during the fall. This will help me see what being in a race is like. I am very excited to be able to say when it is done and over with that I have accomplished my dream. After I run this half I hope to try out some other races and continue with this active lifestyle. After I tore my ACL I decided I needed to something. I shouldn't just take advantage of my ability to do these things. I will be tracking my progress more regularly now as we are 204 days away. This summer I will be devoting a lot of my time to getting ready to start my actual training program in September. With the help of my friends who have started a running group a couple of days a week in the morning I will have the motivation and ability to strengthen my running a become better and more confident for the race. Marathon weekend will be filled with lots of excitement and I am looking forward to everything it has to offer!!

Time, there never seems to be enough of it!

"They say if you dream a thing more than once, it's sure to come true" - Briar Rose (Sleeping Beauty)

I hope that is true, what Briar Rose said, because I have dreamed of this marathon several times. Well half marathon. I call it a marathon because it is easier to say. I don't mean to offend those who run the whole marathon by making nothing of it. I am just so happy that I have found the strength to run half of it! Maybe the next year I can do the whole marathon...maybe!

Training has been going well, for the most part. It is hard to balance a full time work schedule and a full class load and manage to find the time to get out and do some training. Although I might not be doing it as often as I would like I am doing it which is all that matters. We have a little over a year until we register for the half marathon and then in January of 2013 we will be running it. My friend sent me a video that someone made (driving) the course on race day. It made me so happy that soon, it will be me running it! Right now I am just trying to get the courage up to actually run. After I tore my ACL last year and had surgery I am a bit apprehensive. But I know I can start doing it soon. I live on a nice 4.1 mile square and I try and walk it at least 3 times a week. I also do Zumba 2 - 3 times a week (when I can)! I think my strength in knowing I can run the half marathon came from being able to do Zumba! It has really given me a boost in confidence and I know that if I can dream it, I can do it.

It scares me a little to think about running 13.1 miles continuously and that is why I have started training rather uncharacteristically early. I am not looking forward to the winter months. I am going to have to find some way to get out there and walk and hopefully run or I was thinking maybe I will take up swimming for those months. And then in the spring get back to it. Don't get me wrong I will be out on the pavement until the snowy ice mucks everything up! Well...today is Zumba, and weather permitting 4 miles later on. I think I want to goto City Forest today, it's nice to switch it up once in a while!

I hope people who start reading my blog will find it somewhat inspirational, because if I can get the courage up to run this half marathon anyone should be able to!

PS: Happy 40th Birthday Disney World!!

Hello!!

"All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them. - Walt Disney

My name is Morgan and this is my journey to the Disney World half marathon in January of 2013. I have never been a runner but I have always wanted to be one. I am jealous of all the people who can just get up and run, it has never been that easy for me. I have struggled with my weight and body image my whole life. Deciding to run in this half marathon is 100% for myself, and that is why I know I can do it. A little over a year ago I tore my ACL and had surgery, during that time I gained more weight than I would like to have. Even though I worked to get it off I have decided that I need to be more aware of what I am putting in my body and how I am treating it. Not only will I talk about my experience getting ready to run the half marathon I will also discuss all of the healthy trends I come to acquire.

I am blogging because I think it will help me become not only a runner but it will help me run the 13.1 miles of the half marathon. This is very exciting for me and I can't wait to share my experiences with anyone who wants to read.
